Type Locality and Naming

The name was given by Ge Zhizhou et al in 1979. The type section is at the roadside from Xiushan to Rongxi, approximately 6 km southeast of Rongxi, Xiushan County in southeastern Sichuan Province.

Synonym: (溶溪组)


Lithology and Thickness

It consists of purplish red, yellow green, gray green, variegated pelite, silty pelite and siltstone; both its top and base are characterized by purplish red silty pelite. It is 258 m in thickness at the type section locality.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Continuous sedimentation is recorded for the formation in relation with the underlying Xiaoheba Fm or the Majiaochong Fm

Upper contact

Continuous sedimentation is recorded for the formation in relation with the overlying Xiushan Fm

Regional extent

The formation is widely distributed in the southeastern Sichuan Province, northeastern of Guizhou Province, northwestern of Hunan Province and southwestern of Hubei Province with similar lithology and thickness.

Fossils

Rare fossils with low differentiation are only found, including brachiopods Nalivkinia, Nucleospira, Striispirifer; trilobite Astroproetus; graptolites Hunanodendrum typicum; conodont Neoprioniodus excavatus, Distomodus kentuckyensis, Spathognathodus parahassi, Sp. guizhouensis, etc.;chitinozoa Conochitina daozhenensis, and bivalve, crinoid, etc.
